The Education sector has once again received the lion’s share of the 2027 National Budget, with an allocation of $8.033 billion for fiscal 2026/2027.
Last year, Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo allocated $8.766 billion to the Education sector.
Among the major initiatives announced for education and skills training in 2027, the Government will establish the Real Experience and Development for Youth Internship Programme (READY), through which participants aged 16 and over can gain workplace experience and receive a stipend.
“Government also proposes to allocate TT$2 million in fiscal 2027 to launch the Real Experience and Development for Youth Internship Programme – READY, providing approximately 1,300 secondary school students aged 16 years and over with structured work experience during the July-August 2027 vacation period. Participants will undertake four-week internships across
Government Ministries, the Tobago House of Assembly and participating private-sector organisations.”
