An eight-year-old boy was killed on Monday when a runaway truck crashed into his family’s home on Savannah Road, Arouca.
The incident occurred around 3pm when an open-tray truck carrying concrete bricks and other building materials ran off the road and slammed into the residence.
The child, identified as Gideon Smart, was trapped beneath the wreckage and sustained fatal injuries.
Emergency responders later arrived on the scene and removed the child’s body from the debris.
Police said the truck had been in the area delivering building supplies to a nearby residence shortly before the incident. The driver was subsequently arrested by officers of the Tunapuna Police Station.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.
