“Every Child Must Thrive” – Minister Dowlath Vows Continued Support For Students

Education Minister Dr. Michael Dowlath has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child is given the chance to achieve their fullest potential.

Speaking at the CXC Regional Awards Ceremony 2025 at the Government Campus Plaza, where twenty students from across the region were recognised for outstanding performance in the June/July 2024 CAPE and CSEC examinations, Dr. Dowlath stressed that every child must be given the chance to maximise their abilities.

He said this belief is central to the government’s ongoing push to advance the education sector in Trinidad and Tobago.

“Our commitment is clear. Every child, regardless of geography, income, or circumstance, must have the opportunity to maximise their potential. This is the philosophy that drives our work. From expanding digital access and upgrading Wi-Fi in schools to strengthening literacy, enhancing parental engagement, integrating new technologies, and modernising curriculum and practices, we know that excellence is nurtured by teachers who see possibility in every learner. It is reinforced by families who support, encourage, and guide, and is strengthened by policy and remove barriers.”

Dr. Dowlath applauded the twenty high CAPE and CSEC achievers, praising them for upholding the region’s strong legacy of academic excellence. He said that while the Caribbean is small, its “capacity for brilliance is immeasurable.”

He also commended the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) for remaining a “vital development partner” to Ministries of Education throughout the region.

“Its mission to provide world-class, relevant assessments helps strengthen our collective ability to prepare young people for an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world. Your work ensures that Caribbean excellence is measurable, it’s recognisable, and it’s globally respected.”

Dr. Dowlath extended congratulations to the parents, guardians, teachers, and schools whose support contributed to the students’ achievements.
