Patients, visitors and healthcare workers at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex can now stay connected while at the facility, as free TT WiFi has been launched at key public and waiting areas, providing greater access to the internet for those who need it.
Speaking at the launch of TT WiFi at the hospital on Wednesday, Minister of Health Dr Lackram Bodoe said the initiative, done in partnership with the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT), brings the country’s healthcare sector in line with global technical advancements.
“We are living in a time when technology is changing how people communicate, how they learn, how they work, how they access services, and therefore our healthcare system must keep pace with this reality, but today’s initiative also speaks to something much broader than healthcare: digital access is increasingly a part of participation in modern society. A person who cannot afford consistent mobile data should not automatically be excluded from the opportunities that connectivity provides.”
According to TATT’s Chairman, Cris Seecharan, this reflects the Authority’s commitment to expanding connectivity and supports patients waiting for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
“I am pleased to announce that as of September 2026, TTWi-Fi is available at 288 locations across Trinidad and Tobago. And these include 12 transportation hubs, 23 libraries, 84 schools and 119 health institutions.”
Chairman of the North Central Regional Health Authority, Dr Tim Gopeesingh, described the move as timely and noted that it complemented some of the changes already being undertaken at the facility.
“We have over 1.1 million patient visits, Honourable Minister, to this NCRHA, and we see in the emergency departments approximately 200 patients, in the adult and 150 to 200 in the paediatric emergencies, and we admit about at least about 70 patients from the adults and about 25 to 30 from paediatrics. We see almost 200,000 patient visits in the clinics so your advent here to help the families of those patients, the patients, the doctors, the nurses is very welcome. We congratulate you and thank you for this.”
TSTT is the service provider at this location. This is its second TT WiFi launch at a major healthcare institution in Trinidad, following its launch at San Fernando Teaching Hospital in July.
TT WiFi is available in key waiting and public areas in and around the hospital compound.
