With thousands expected to flock to the nation’s beaches over the long Carnival weekend, the Ministry of Defence has rolled out expanded lifeguard coverage across Trinidad, beginning Thursday.
The move comes amid an active Hazardous Seas Bulletin issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.
In a public advisory issued on Tuesday evening, the Ministry announced that lifeguards will be deployed across all major recreational beaches from February 12th to the 18th.
The coverage extends from the North Coast’s popular hotspots including Maracas and Las Cuevas, to South and East Coast favourites including Vessigny, Los Iros, Quinam, Toco, Salybia, and Manzanilla.
The expansive Mayaro shoreline will also see full lifeguard presence, particularly at Church Road, St. Ann’s, Beaumont, Plaisance, Rabita, and Radix.
The Ministry said although certified lifeguards will be deployed at these designated beaches, it urged the public to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution when entering the water.
