The United National Congress (UNC) has emerged as the leading party in the parliamentary elections, securing 26 of the 41 constituencies. The People’s National Movement secured 13, and the Tobago People’s Party secured two.
That’s according to the preliminary tabulation and verification of results from the Election and Boundaries Commission (EBC).
In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, the EBC confirmed that approximately 54% of those registered to vote actually turned up to vote and that three recounts are in progress at the request of the UNC.
The recounts are being conducted for Arouca/Lopinot, Malabar/Mausica, and San Fernando East. All three recounts commenced at 3pm today.
The EBC noted that these preliminary results are provisional and remain subject to final validation, pending the conclusion of the requested recounts.
