T&T’s Men’s 4×100 Metres team finally received this country’s third Olympic Gold medal at a reallocation ceremony in Lausanne Switzerland earlier today.
Aaron Armstrong, Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callendar and Richard Thompson were presented with their gold medals by Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and TTOC President Diane Henderson.
In 2008 Team TTO finished second behind gold medallists Jamaica at the Beijing Olympics.
However in 2017 Nesta Carter, who ran the third leg for the Jamaica team, was found guilty of using the steroid masking agent clomiphene after a stored sample was retested.
He was subsequently banned for four years and Jamaica stripped of their gold.
Today’s ceremony was a long time coming having been scheduled for Tokyo 2020 but postponed due to pandemic restrictions.
T&T now has three Olympic Gold medals; Hasely Crawford’s from 1976, the 2008 4×100, and Keshorn Walcott’s, won at Rio 2012.
