The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs has thrown its support behind the upcoming UWI Games 2026, following a courtesy visit from senior executives of the University of the West Indies.

The visiting UWI delegation, led by Deputy Principal Professor Derek Chadee, met with Minister Phillip Watts and Permanent Secretary Penelope Bradshaw-Niles to discuss preparations for the multi-campus games.

Scheduled for May 21st to 29th, the event will bring together some 645 student-athletes from UWI’s five campuses: Cave Hill-Barbados, Five Islands-Antigua, Global Campus, Mona-Jamaica, and St. Augustine.

Competitors will go head-to-head in ten sporting disciplines, at venues including the Hasely Crawford Stadium, the National Aquatic Centre in Couva, and the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua.

Minister Watts pledged his Ministry’s full support and signalled interest in deeper collaboration with the UWI on sport science initiatives for T&T athletes.
