Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has instructed that a full and urgent investigation be undertaken, following reports of the death of six-year-old Jasher Francois after he was admitted to the San Fernando Teaching Hospital.
The Francois family took to Facebook to air their sorrow as they expressed shock over the incident.
Minister of Health, Dr Lackram Bodoe, has taken immediate steps to initiate the investigation to ensure that all relevant facts are gathered swiftly and transparently.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Health have extended their deepest condolences to the Francois family on the passing of the six-year-old. They say they sympathise with the family, recognising the profound pain of losing a child.
The South-West Regional Health Authority has also offered counselling and support services and will continue to extend these services to the parents as they navigate this situation.
The SWRHA confirmed that a formal case review of the care and management of the patient is underway, and the findings will be fully disclosed to the parents upon completion.
