Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Ravi Ratiram visited farmers at the Caroni rice lands on Sunday, meeting with a wide cross-section of rice growers to hear their concerns firsthand.
During a tour of the fields, farmers highlighted ongoing challenges, with reliable access to irrigation water emerging as a major issue. Minister Ratiram has since pledged to convene a follow-up meeting later this week, bringing together rice growers, senior officials of the Water and Sewerage Authority, and the Ministry’s Engineering Division to identify practical solutions and develop a co-ordinated action plan.
The Minister also met with crop farmers in Bejucal, who outlined operational difficulties affecting production.
He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing their concerns and indicated that further discussions will be held as part of a collaborative effort to strengthen the agricultural sector and support sustainable food production.
