Government is set to introduce parole legislation in Parliament.
Justice Minister Devesh Maharaj confirmed this while speaking with reporters at the formal opening of the Trinidad and Tobago IVF and Fertility Centre in Aranguez on Wednesday.
“We are bringing certain amendments to the Constitution for the right of reasonable trial, a quick trial, right of the accused. Trial within a reasonable time. There’s a Parole Bill, which we will bring into Parliament shortly to bring parole, introduce parole to the criminal justice system. We are introducing amendments to the Probation Act and quite importantly we will be introducing the Victims’ Rights Bill.”
