The Hotel School in Chaguaramas will be reopened.
This is one of the measures in the 2025/2026 Budget being used by the Government to help tourism grow.
At the start of the Senate debate on the Appropriation (Financial Year 2026) Bill, 2025, Minister of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development, Dr. Kennedy Swaratsingh, reviewed the measures from the House, saying he was saddened upon visiting the defunct Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute.
“It is a real travesty, when I visited Chaguaramas upon assuming office that the Hotel School not only has been closed but had been mothballed for the last seven or eight years. That hotel school used to produce roughly about 700 graduates every year.”
The Minister said the Government is determined to bring this strong base of tourism back, in terms of training and providing hope for young students.
“It is left to this Government to now reopen that school to prepare our citizens to be able to get jobs in the service sector and the tourism sector.”
