Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali has stated that his country’s national security forces have been fully mobilised and are carefully monitoring developments in Venezuela.
The heightened alert follows the US capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and his wife overnight, and subsequent confirmation by US Attorney General Pamela Bondi that they have been indicted in the Southern District of New York.
Guyana’s Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud shared President Ali’s statement via the social media platform, X.
“President Irfaan Ali: “We have been monitoring the situation #Venezuela all morning. The priority is the safety and security of our Country. The Defence Board, the leadership of the GDF and our security forces are fully mobilized in accordance with our security plans. We have spoken to the SG (Secretary General) of Caricom and as more information becomes available we will further update the population.”
