The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council today listed the State’s appeal in the case involving businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve Hadeed.
However, a hearing date has not yet been announced.
The Privy Council, based in London, is Trinidad and Tobago’s highest appellate court, hearing challenges to decisions of the local Court of Appeal.
The appeal stems from legal proceedings over the couple’s detention under Preventive Detention Orders. During a hearing before the Court of Appeal last week, attorneys for the Hadeeds argued that their detention was unlawful and secured an order overturning a High Court ruling. The Court then directed that the couple be released from custody and placed under strict house-arrest conditions.
The State subsequently obtained a stay of that order, pending its appeal to the Privy Council, resulting in the couple remaining in custody.
