HDC Calls Claims By MP Moonilal “Fake News”

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is denying claims by Oropouche East MP, Dr. Roodal Moonilal, of payments to a company, Rose Capital Investment Limited.

On September 8th, Dr. Moonilal suggested that HDC’s Chairman Noel Garcia signed contracts and issued payments to Rose Capital Investment Limited to the value of $4.8 million – an alleged increase from $3.7 million.

However, in a release today, HDC says that only the Managing DIrector can sign on the award and sign off contracts. Furthermore, HDC notes that the HDC’s Contractor Database does not contain Rose Capital Investment Ltd as one with which HDC conducts business.

The HDC also says that upon examination of the Letter from which the award was made, the document is fake and was not printed on an official HDC letterhead.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley also responded to Opposition MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal’s claim that payments were made by the HDC to Rose Capital Investment Limited.

The Prime Minister said on Monday that Dr. Moonilal’s accusation that Keron Rose, who did a seminar at Balisier House, had received $4.8 million in contracts to fix box drains was ludicrous. Mr. Rose himself, in a Facebook post, said the accusation is crazy and reckless.

Dr. Moonilal claimed Rose “is the criminal mastermind” behind Rose Capital and Trillions Systems. He used Rose’s image while making the accusation but later had to apologise, saying that a name found on the company documents for “Rose Capital Investments Ltd” included James Rose.

Dr. Rowley, in his Facebook post, said the Opposition allegation shows the “ UNC’s understanding and practice of organised wrongdoing in the hope of deliberately damaging people’s reputation.”
