HDC To Construct 96 Rental Units In Beetham Gardens

Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation, Jayselle Mc Farlane, believes the construction of housing units in Beetham Gardens is the start of revitalisation of the area.

On Monday, the HDC turned the sod for the construction of 96 rental units on 23rd and 24th Streets in Beetham. The units will be part of the Corporation’s Social Housing Programme, which provides residential rental accommodations at sub market rates.

Ms. Mc Farlane says the HDC understands the need to provide affordable housing, especially in this depressed community, adding that much more units like these will be constructed across the country.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Adrian Leonce, says the people of Beetham will benefit greatly from this project since many residents would be involved in the construction.

The HDC says it chose to provide rental units since many in its target audience consist of people who simply cannot afford to rent on the free market.
