Health Minister Announces Successful Stem Cell Transplant

A child has successfully undergone a stem cell transplant following amendments to the Children’s Life Fund legislation.

Speaking on TTT’s Saturday morning programme, FOCUS, Health Minister Dr. Lackram Bodoe says the changes have expanded access to specialised treatment for children in Trinidad and Tobago.

“And I’m happy to report that the first child has benefited from a stem cell transplant, successfully so, under the Children’s Life Fund. And of course, that child is looking forward to meeting the Honourable Prime Minister, something which will happen very soon, once her busy schedule is cleared after the budget debate and so on.”

The amendments also expanded eligibility to include conditions such as sickle cell disease and increased the funding limit from one million dollars to one-point-five million dollars, with ministerial discretion.
