The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce the availability of 68,600 doses of the influenza vaccine for the 2025–2026 influenza season.
To underscore the importance of being protected during the flu season, the Minister of Health, Dr. Lackram Bodoe, received his influenza vaccine as part of the launch. By leading through example, Minister Bodoe reiterated the need for vulnerable groups to protect themselves against the virus.
He noted, “It is especially important for the elderly, pregnant women and immunocompromised persons to be immunised against influenza, as vaccination significantly reduces the risk of complications and hospitalisation, and I strongly encourage those most at risk to take this important step for their health.”
The vaccines are being distributed to ensure availability at all health centres by Tuesday, September 23, 2025. This season’s trivalent vaccine provides protection against the following strains:
- Victoria A (H1N1)
- Croatia A (H3N2)
- Austria B
The Ministry strongly encourages the population to get the Influenza vaccine, particularly those among vulnerable groups, to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalisation and complications associated with Influenza. Priority groups include:
- Children aged 6 months to 5 years
- Adults 65 years and older
- Pregnant women
- Persons with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, hypertension, heart, kidney, or liver disease
- Persons with compromised immune systems (e.g. lupus, certain cancer patients
- Persons with chronic respiratory illnesses such as asthma
- Healthcare workers and individuals with high risk exposure (public facing roles
The Ministry reminds the public of the importance of good hygiene practices to reduce the spread of influenza and other communicable diseases:
- Wash hands regularly with soap and water or use alcohol-based sanitiser (at least 70% alcohol).
- Clean and sanitise high-touch surfaces frequently.
- Avoid sharing personal items such as utensils, water bottles, and towels.
- Avoid touching your face and eyes with unclean hands.
- Limit close contact with individuals showing symptoms of illness.
- Wear a mask where appropriate.
- Stay home if unwell.
The Ministry of Health reaffirms its commitment to protecting the health and well-being of the population and encourages all eligible persons to access the influenza vaccine at the nearest health centre, free of charge.
