Health Ministry Issues Alert Over Possible Fake Wegovy Tablets

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has issued a medical product alert warning the public about the possible circulation of falsified Wegovy® tablets, a once-daily weight-loss medication containing the active ingredient semaglutide.

In a statement released through its Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division (CFDD), the Ministry said the product has only been authorised for use in the United States since December 2025 and is not approved for use in Trinidad and Tobago or any other jurisdiction. Officials expressed concern that the medication may soon appear in regional markets through illegal importation, increasing the risk of counterfeit versions being sold to consumers.

Wegovy tablets are marketed in multiple strengths, including 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg doses, and are typically packaged in bottles containing 30 tablets. The Ministry cautioned that any such products found locally should be treated as unauthorised and potentially unsafe.

Although Wegovy tablets are not registered for use in Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry said that, out of an abundance of caution, anyone who may be in possession of the identified drug is advised to discontinue use immediately.
