The health sector got the biggest allocation in the Government’s 2027 fiscal package, receiving TT$8.061 billion.
Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo says it reflects the Government’s plans to resuscitate the sector.
“With the recommissioning of the Couva Children’s Hospital and the near completion of the new Central Block of the Port of Spain General Hospital, we expect a significant cut in waiting times for patients in need of life-saving surgeries.”
The Minister said there will also be greater access to affordable medication.
“We are also making medicine more affordable by approving new pharmaceutical products for local use and by adopting the India Pharmacopia, which will help reduce the cost of medication to citizens. Mr Speaker, promise made, promise kept, and more to come.”
In the previous Budget presentation, the healthcare sector received an allocation of TT$8.214 billion, the second-highest allocation for that period.
