Healthcare Projects Among Most Competitive In Government’s Revitalisation Drive

Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John said healthcare facilities were among the most competitive areas under the government’s Revitalisation Blueprint, attracting 45 expressions of interest.

Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, Minister John outlined several of the government’s plans for the sector.

“We are talking about over 1,000 additional bed spaces, both in San Fernando and Port of Spain. Again, we are looking at a world-class medical teaching campus because you want to get to the point that with your health care, right now people are still waiting two days for a bed and what have you. So you get past that, and you have enough redundancy in the system because we have excellent doctors, excellent nurses. We have doctors at home sleeping right now because they have no jobs. So you suck up all of that redundancy and extra capacity that we have.”

Minister John said the overall initiative has received overwhelming support, with 965 expressions of interest submitted across various development projects.
