House Speaker Encourages Environmental Responsibility : Place Planet Before Profit

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Jagdeo Singh, is urging citizens to place ‘planet before profit.’

Delivering remarks at the Rotunda Gallery Exhibition titled From “Reef to Rainforest, Protecting Our Planet”, he emphasized that every citizen shares the responsibility for protecting the environment.

Mr. Singh, underscored the importance of art and habitat, reminding us that environmental sustainability is not an abstract ideal but a pressing global priority.

“Today’s exhibition reflects the same spirit of awareness and responsibility. This sentiment is echoed in the words of Vandana Shiva, who reminds us that we are not the ones who are carrying the world on our shoulders. It is good to remember the planet is carrying us. Thus, we have a solemn duty to place planet before profit and responsibility before irresponsibility.”

More than art, Mr. Singh noted that the platform opens dialogue on real environmental change, urging everyone to join the broader conversation on building a more sustainable future and protecting biodiversity.

“To every artist represented here today, whether seasoned professional or first-time exhibitor, I offer my heartfelt congratulations. Your talent reminds us that art has the power not merely to reflect society, but to move entire societies, to shape the thinking of entire societies. Through your work, you are helping to cultivate awareness, provoke thought, and inspire action.”
