ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup: South Africa Edge Closer To Semi-Finals

South Africa has moved to second on the table at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, after a dominant 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in a rain-affected match in Colombo.

Sri Lanka posted 105 for seven in their 20 overs, with Vishmi Gunaratne top-scoring with 34 after returning from a knee injury. The innings was halted at 46 for two due to a five-hour rain delay.

South Africa’s bowlers kept things tight. Nonkululeko Mlaba was the standout, taking three wickets, including two in the final over.

Chasing a revised target of 121, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits made light work of the total. The pair put on an unbeaten 125-run stand with Wolvaardt finishing on 60, Brits on 55 to seal victory with more than three overs to spare.

The Proteas now sit on eight points and are one win away from a semi-final spot. They next face Pakistan, while Sri Lanka meet Bangladesh in India.
