IDA Political Leader Abstains From Voting In THA Elections

The Innovative Democratic Alliance’s Political Leader and candidate for Scarborough/Mt Grace, Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt Angus, chose not to vote in Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly elections.

Dr. Tsoiafatt Angus, who led a slate of 11 candidates, was listed to vote at the Black Rock Multipurpose Facility.

“I normally vote in the Black Rock/Plymouth constituency, and the Innovative Democratic Alliance, IDA, does not have a candidate in this area. When we were first launched, we told the public that we have 11 candidates and we are leaving four seats for the opposition, and this is one of those seats.”

Dr. Tsoiafatt Angus said that while there was discussion about her voting and intentionally spoiling her ballot, she believed that refusing to exercise her franchise was the better decision.

“I, for the first time, am not exercising my democratic right to vote. With this election, at the end of the day, we will have three parties in the House, and therefore, as a leader, I don’t want any question as to where my allegiance lies or bias lies. I want persons to know that I am prepared to work with anyone and everyone at the outcome of this election.”
