One author is equipping travel advisors and those hoping to enter the field with the tools needed to succeed in the profession.
“The Professional Travel Advisor”, a new book launched on Wednesday, is raising the bar and redefining how the profession is approached.
According to three-time author and travel industry expert Indira Ramgarib-Katwaroo, the book was shaped by over a decade of experience working as a travel advisor.
“The Professional Travel Advisor is not just a book to me. It is years of knowledge, growth, conversations, challenges, and practical lessons gathered through this journey, one built on consistency, on trust, on knowledge, and on the way you treat people.”
The book also addresses some of the challenges she faced when entering the industry and was intentionally designed with aspiring professionals in mind.
“Somewhere along my journey I realised that many talented people in this industry were working extremely hard but without guidance, without systems, and sometimes without the structure needed to really grow. I saw people with passion but no roadmap. I saw people making avoidable mistakes simply because no one ever taught them differently, and that realisation stayed with me.”
President of the Greater San Fernando Area Chamber of Commerce, Kiran Singh, welcomed the book, noting its potential to generate foreign exchange earnings and contribute to long-term economic growth.
“We are very proud here this evening to acknowledge the hard work that Indira has done, what she is going to bring to San Fernando. We have the upcoming yachting industry, the cruise ship industry that is going to come to San Fernando when we develop the waterfront, and Indira is poised as the Director of Tourism and Events Promotion to bring tourists to San Fernando, so when they come, our San Fernando people will benefit.”
The author emphasised that the responsibilities of the profession should not be taken lightly and expressed her commitment to providing additional resources, hinting at another book in the near future.
