For the first time in its 163-year history, St. Mary’s College in Port of Spain has appointed a female principal.
Jacinta Honore was officially installed on Thursday, January 29th 2026, to lead the historic institution.
She said she was truly honoured to stand before the staff and students as the Principal of the college. She described the school as a place with a rich and proud history, built on faith, discipline, brotherhood, service, and the pursuit of excellence.
“I step into this role with a great respect for that legacy and with a clear commitment of building upon it. As the blessing said, this is an important charge given by God, and I take this seriously.”
The new Principal took time to address the school’s more than 1,000-strong population on her commitment to them.
“This college exists for you. Every class, every lesson, every extracurricular activity, every rule and expectation is designed not just to educate you but to develop you and your character so that you may be developed into young men who will lead with integrity.”
St. Mary’s head prefect, Taryl Thomas, described Ms. Honore as an exemplary teacher who served at the school for over 34 years.
“She notices potential where others may overlook and finds opportunity in places where she may feel helpless. Ms. Honore saw potential in me even before I began to serve as the head prefect. She inspired not only me by her expectation alone but by her belief, showing that I, along with every single student, am capable of more than they imagine.”
