Junior Elite Sports Psychology Programme Closes

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago have wrapped up a six-week mental skills programme for young athletes and organisers say it’s just the beginning.

The Junior Elite Sport Psychology Foundations Programme closed with a ceremony at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, recognising athletes, coaches, parents, and partner agencies.

The initiative targeted key mental skills: self-awareness, goal-setting, focus, resilience, confidence, and wellbeing.

Minister of Sport Phillip Watts called it a critical investment, saying programmes focused on mental performance and resilience are support structures the Ministry intends to expand.

SporTT Chairman Kester Lendor echoed that, saying excellence in sport is shaped by mindset, not just physical preparation.

Lendor also highlighted a parent workshop component, saying empowering parents to reinforce these skills strengthens the entire support system around young athletes.
