It was all about the youngsters as the Tunapuna Constituency kicked off its 2026 Kiddies Carnival celebration on Sunday.
Young masqueraders adorned in feathers, sparkling costumes and smiles claimed the spotlight as they displayed their impressive costume designs on the streets of Tunapuna.
Speaking at the event was Minister of Homeland Security and MP for the area, Roger Alexander, who highlighted the significance of the event, stating that it sought to provide employment opportunities to vendors, all while keeping the children at the heart of the occasion.
“You know what I did for Tunapuna this year? The snow cone man, the man who selling sweeties, biscuits, water, anything, give him a chance to come and make a living. You know why? Because they were prevented from doing that before, but as a street man, I understand how it is to walk the walk and talk the talk, you know.”
Chairman of the Tunapuna Cultural and Festivals Committee, Neil Beharrysingh, said this year’s Kiddies Carnival event followed a series of events held in the constituency.
“We started with the launch and tassa, one of the biggest events we have in Tunapuna. We had12 tassa bands and we had traditional mas, steelband, for the launch. We held it in El Dorado, Tunapuna as we normally do, and it was a tremendous success.”
As the show came to an end and the music faded, there was one thing that remained certain: that the future of Carnival is well and alive.
