Laptops With AI Tools Coming For Form One Students In September 2025

The government has approved the procurement of some 18,000 laptops for students who wrote the 2025 Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) examination.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the announcement on Thursday.

“We have undertaken today and approved the procurement of laptops and accessories for students entering Form One in the secondary schools in the Academic Year September 2025, again a promise we made and which we will keep. We have approved that Cabinet Note today to procure, according to law, the laptop and accessories, children and schools.”

Minister of Education Dr. Michael Dowlath also gave an update on the procurement of laptops.

“This project is very close to the heart of our Prime Minister because she has this love for the children of the nation, and so, as we look forward to the procurement through iGovTT, I want to say that these laptops will not be given empty. They will be filled with AI tutors, educational videos and programmes that will allow our young people, age appropriate, that will allow them to live and learn in a digital world.”
