The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) seized approximately $1.3 million worth of cannabis during an intelligence-led anti-crime operation conducted in the Cunupia Police District on Friday 15th May, 2026, under the State of Emergency (SOE) Regulations 2026.
This targeted exercise formed part of Central Division’s continued strategic offensive against narcotics trafficking, gang-related violence, illegal firearms, and organised criminal networks operating within vulnerable communities.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., acting on credible intelligence, officers conducted surveillance and subsequent search operations at a residence located at Rasheed Avenue, Munroe Road, Cunupia. During the exercise, officers detained a 31-year-old taxi driver, who subsequently led investigators to concealed crocus bags within an abandoned structure adjacent to the premises.
A coordinated search resulted in the seizure of 187 kilogrammes of cannabis and 187 trafficking packets, with an estimated street value of $1,309,000. Officers also seized one Glock 19 pistol with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The suspect was subsequently arrested and formally cautioned for Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearm User’s Licence, and Possession of Ammunition Without a Firearm User’s Licence.
The operation was spearheaded by DCP Operations, Suzette Martin, coordinated by ACP Anthony Remy, Snr Supt Rudolph Bhagwandeen, Supt Glodon, and ASP Hosein, and supervised by ASP Mark Hernandez, Ag. Insp Rampersad, and Sgt. Harriot, together with officers of the Cunupia Police Station, Caroni CID, K-9 Unit, and Central Division Task Force (CDTF) Area North.
