On Tuesday 13th October 2026, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) issued a Mining Licence and Processing Licence to Studley Park Enterprise Limited (SPEL) as approved by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago led by the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar S.C., M.P. Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Honourable Prime Minister handed over the documents after presiding over the signing of both licenses during her visit to Tobago.
The SPEL manages the Studley Park Quarry and is wholly-owned by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA). Successful operations can therefore support both local economic activity and returns to a Tobago-owned public enterprise. The grant of the mining and processing licences to SPEL is therefore expected to strengthen the framework for the sustainable commercial development of Tobago’s mineral resources.
Tobago will benefit in several areas as a result of the issuance of the Mining and Processing licences to SPEL including:
- Support to Existing and New Employment
- Enabling Investment and Increased Production
- Improved Availability of Construction Materials
- Potential for Regional Exports and Foreign Exchange Earnings
- New business opportunities for Tobago-based suppliers in areas such as haulage, maintenance, logistics, welding, operating supplies, security, catering and cleaning.
- Strict controls for dust, noise, blasting and progressive rehabilitation to protect Tobago’s tourism and ecosystems.
