Minister Alexander Meets UN Officials To Strengthen Crime-Fighting Partnerships

Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander hosted senior United Nations officials yesterday to discuss strengthening international cooperation in addressing Trinidad and Tobago’s security challenges and reducing crime through strategic partnerships.

The high-level meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters on Abercromby Street in Port of Spain, brought together representatives from the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to advance the country’s security priorities.

Discussions focused on reducing crime rates, strengthening national resilience, and ensuring development initiatives align with the government’s national security agenda through enhanced international collaboration.

“Security is a shared responsibility that requires innovation, collaboration, and global cooperation,” Minister Alexander emphasised during the talks. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to building partnerships with international organizations like the UNDP to tackle evolving security threats and dismantle criminal networks.

“The Government remains steadfast in its mission to protect our people and our nation, and through strategic cooperation we are ensuring that our policies are not only effective, but also people-centred and development-oriented,” the Minister stated.

The UN delegation reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Trinidad and Tobago’s efforts to combat crime and promote sustainable development. Officials emphasised the critical role of partnership and innovation in strengthening community safety and building resilience across the nation.

The Ministry of Homeland Security continues to position international collaboration as a cornerstone of its strategy to reduce crime, enhance security, and protect the welfare of all Trinidad and Tobago citizens.
