Minister Alexander Sends Stern Message To Criminals Ahead Of Carnival

Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander is warning criminals to think twice before attempting to disrupt this year’s Carnival celebrations.

Speaking at a UNC Media Briefing on Wednesday, Minister Alexander assured that public safety remains the government’s top priority as the season approaches.

“Carnival belongs to the people, not to the gangs, not to the drug lord, not to the drug trafficker. The people of Trinidad and Tobago own the Carnival and it is our responsibility so we secure the Carnival by any lawful means necessary.”

Minister Alexander issued a stern warning to criminal elements, making it clear that law enforcement will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt this year’s Carnival celebrations.

“If you come out to fight on our nation’s streets for Carnival, if you think Carnival, you will take the advantage to frustrate persons, to commit offences against them, I suggest you think again. You will meet law enforcement at every corner.”

He emphasised that the full strength of the Police Service will be deployed, with all officers called out to duty to ensure maximum protection for every citizen throughout the Carnival season.

“We are calling out all police officers, whether on leave or not. Not because we are scared, but because we are serious, because the public deserves coverage, because our officers deserve support, and because we want a visible presence, not gaps.”

Minister Alexander also urged citizens to cooperate fully with law enforcement during the Carnival season, noting the importance of following all instructions to help maintain a safe and secure environment.

“When an officer gives instructions, it is not pressure or malice. It is for public safety. The police and I, as a former police officer, we want you to live. The glass bottle ban is in effect not only in Port of Spain but at all Carnival celebrations. Why? Because glass bottles can quickly become a weapon.”
