An honoured guest at Saturday’s official opening ceremony for the MV Logos Hope, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Darrell Allahar, shared his enthusiasm that the mission of the floating book fair aligns naturally with national priorities.
“The government of Trinidad and Tobago is resolutely dedicated to education and literacy as pillars of our national development. We recognise that a literature society is a stronger and more resilient one. It is more innovative. Education empowers individuals to think critically, participate meaningfully in civil and democratic life and adapt in a rapidly changing world.”
Minister Allahar also compared the tapestry of nationalities that comprise the Logos Hope crew to the “melting pot” that is Trinidad and Tobago.
“That ship is nothing short of a living symbol of global cooperation. And that symbol … resonates deeply with us here in Trinidad and Tobago. Because, as we say here, “We are all on the same ship,” from many, many different places in the world. And our Republic is a vibrant mosaic. We, in Trinidad and Tobago, are a melting pot of traditions, histories, and cultures from across the world. Yet, we remain one people bound together by mutual respect and shared purpose.”
Reaffirming that access to knowledge can transform lives, Minister Allahar thanked the crew of the Logos Hope for making the world more accessible to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
