It is time for society to reflect on and take note that women are not be and should not be blamed for staying in situations of domestic violence.
Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen says many career women some even within the police service suffer in silence from domestic violence and this speaks volumes to the stigma attached to it.
Reflecting on the loss of a friend to such an incident she says its more than just the government’s responsibility.
The minister was speaking at an event hosted by the organisation WRYSE which stands for Woman Rediscover Your Strength. Minister Ameen commended the organization for its continuous work with women and bringing awareness while providing support to victims, which she says is important so both men and women can support others.
The organisation assists persons affected by domestic violence.
Organisation spokesperson and domestic violence survivor Kamika Maclechi told TTT news apart from women the organisation is creating programs for men who are perpetrators and also victims.
The WRYSE organisation was hosting a dinner to celebrate those who were once victims and on the road to recovery to become overcomers.
