Planning and Development Minister Pennelope Beckles, Trinidad and Tobago’s Governor on the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is currently leading Trinidad and Tobago’s delegation at the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest) in Panama during the period March 16-19, 2023.
As a member country of the IDB, Trinidad and Tobago is usually represented at the annual meeting of the Bank by the country’s Governor on the Board of Governors of the IDB, who is supported by a team of professionals. Trinidad and Tobago recently hosted the XI Annual Consultation of Caribbean Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group on March 5-7, 2023 in Port-of-Spain, led by the Ministry of Planning and Development.
The official gathering at this Annual Meeting is a forum for discussion among the Institution’s Governors. Minister Beckles and the T&T delegation inclusive of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Development; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance; and the Chief Management Accountant of the Tobago House of Assembly are attending the meeting which is taking place in Panama.
Investments made by the IDB in Trinidad and Tobago, not only in terms of financial resources but the technical expertise and guidance, continue to place the IDB as one of the main sources of multilateral financing for the country’s development efforts. To this end, during the annual meeting countries will be given the opportunity to discuss ways the IDB Group can enhance its role for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Especially important to this event are the seminars on priority areas for the region such as poverty and inequality; the climate crisis and a green transition; biodiversity; gender; diversity and inclusion; sustainable and inclusive infrastructure; and regional integration.
