The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to regional cooperation within CARICOM, amid concerns from local manufacturers about rising tensions within the region.
Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John gave the assurance while speaking to the media at the recent reopening of the Moruga Police Station, noting that collaboration with CARICOM partners remains a priority for the administration.
“There is no way that we are going to be careless in our relationship with CARICOM, and of course we understand that a lot of our export go to CARICOM, and we are proud of that, that we are very competitive as Trinidad and Tobago, that the products that go are of a high quality prices are competitive and so on. People could buy anywhere, but we are very sure that, based on the familial ties, based on our historical ties, based on the quality of what we do, that we’ll continue to score big with the business of CARICOM.”
Reflecting on what she would’ve achieved over the last seven months as Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Minister John said that, while she is aware that there is a lot of work still to be done, she is optimistic.
“I’ve not achieved enough, honestly, but next year December, if you ask me the question, I’ll still say the same thing, but we’ll be in a much better place.”
