Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Nicholas Morris, has chastised what he termed as “vulgar” remarks by former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley against Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Earlier this week, Dr. Rowley held a media conference in which he used a derogatory term while responding to allegations made by the current Prime Minister with regard to the construction of Balisier House.
Speaking to reporters at the Post Cabinet Media Briefing on Thursday, Minister Morris criticised the comments made by Dr. Rowley.
“I think the country rejects the vulgar, failed politician that the former Prime Minister is. It is very condescending. It’s embarrassing that a country with a rich history of democracy will have a former Prime Minister coming on the airwaves to degenerate women and speak against women. I think what I would like to add, the most embarrassing thing in this situation is the silence of the Leader of the Opposition.”
He called on the Opposition Leader to speak out against the remark.
“The Leader of the Opposition is a female, and for the sake of politics, she has stayed quiet and not defended a fellow female leader. The women of our global community and from Trinidad and Tobago have worked hard to become leaders in every field in Trinidad and Tobago. And today, while we defend the Prime Minister and astound the Prime Minister, today we call out the Leader of the Opposition for staying quiet in defending women’s rights for the sake of politics.”
