Minister Of Justice Meets With US Embassy Officials

The Honourable Devesh Maharaj, Minister of Justice and Minister in the Office of the Attorney General, welcomed Mr Philip Kern, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, and Ms Kelley Whitson, International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Unit Chief, for a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Justice Head Office in Port of Spain on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

During the meeting, the officials engaged in discussions focused on strengthening the justice sector, law enforcement cooperation, and mutual opportunities to enhance Trinidad and Tobago’s legal and criminal justice framework. The Chargé d’Affaires advanced proposals for the improvement of this sector, which the Minister undertook to consider.

Minister Maharaj emphasised the vital role that international partnerships play in advancing shared security and justice priorities, particularly in modernising the criminal justice system.

The visit forms part of the Ministry of Justice’s ongoing efforts to nurture meaningful relationships with international partners and support collaboration towards a modern and effective justice system.
