Government Senator and Minister in the Ministry of Housing Phillip Alexander says society should not be allowed to paint communities as criminal hotspots simply because a few rogue elements spoil them.
Speaking on Talk City 91.1FM’s show The Flagship with Siewdath Persad, he said taking back communities is one of the main objectives of the Zones of Special Operations.
He noted that for too long the few have allowed the many to be denied simple services due to the fear of crime.
“There is an inescapable reality that we have a significant criminal element in Trinidad and Tobago, but it should not paint with a broad brush the communities that they’ve set up shop in. And that is what has happened. So if you’re living in a community and you are a law-abiding person, church-going, taxpaying family man, raising your family, wife, children, but you have to hear day in and day out that you are living in a hot spot.”
He said the government is responding to the people and will do what it takes to make these communities safe.
