Minister Ratiram Commends Praedial Larceny Squad For Swift Recovery Of Stolen Cattle

Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Senator Ravi Ratiram, has commended the dedicated efforts of the Praedial Larceny Squad (PLS) following the swift recovery of allegedly stolen cattle belonging to a farmer from Enterprise.

The incident occurred on May 19th, 2026, when a farmer reported the alleged theft of seven cattle to the Central Praedial Larceny Squad. Acting swiftly, officers launched an investigation that quickly led to the identification of a vehicle registration number believed to be linked to the theft.

Further investigations took officers to Morvant, where the Praedial Larceny Squad coordinated efforts with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). Accompanied by the victim, officers conducted enquiries at the location and successfully identified and recovered four of the stolen animals.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the remaining three cattle had been transported to the Penal district and sold. Several individuals have since been detained in connection with the matter, while investigations remain ongoing.

Minister Ratiram praised the coordinated response and professionalism demonstrated by both agencies, emphasizing that the successful operation highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in combating praedial larceny and protecting the livelihoods of farmers across Trinidad and Tobago.

“Praedial larceny offenders will feel the full brunt of the law,” Minister Ratiram stated.

Recognising the serious impact of praedial larceny on the agricultural sector, Minister Ratiram reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the Praedial Larceny Squad’s operational capabilities. In the past year, the Ministry has expanded the PLS fleet from one operational vehicle to nine, significantly enhancing response capacity. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce an Air Support Unit to further bolster anti-praedial larceny efforts.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries continues to encourage farmers and members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly and to work closely with law enforcement authorities to safeguard the nation’s agricultural sector.
