Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ravi Ratiram, has hailed the indispensable role women play across the agricultural value chain, noting their vital contributions to advancing food security in T&T.
Speaking at a special Mother’s Day event at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries’ Head Office on Thursday, Minister Ravi Ratiram underscored the remarkable impact of women in agriculture.
“It was just yesterday we posted a picture of women in agriculture and that one picture that we posted yesterday on our ministry’s website – the statistics and the analytics would have shown that that picture has gotten the most traction. It’s how our country respects and appreciates our women in agriculture.”
Minister Ratiram said the event was not only a celebration of the dedication, professionalism, and invaluable contributions of women within the Ministry but also a recognition of the essential role women play in shaping society.
“Across Trinidad and Tobago, women are farmers, agri-processors, entrepreneurs, researchers, extension officers, administrators, educators, and community leaders helping to strengthen the resilience and productivity of our agricultural sector.”
Minister Ratiram also acknowledged the dual responsibilities many women carry, balancing professional duties with unpaid care and domestic work – contributions he said are often under-recognised but deeply significant.
“Many of you manage demanding professional responsibilities while simultaneously leading your household, supporting children, caring for relatives, and serving in your communities. Yet every day, you continue to report for duty with professionalism, excellence, and commitment. And for that, I say thank you.”
He added that the Ministry remains committed to creating inclusive workplaces that promote respect, support work-life balance, and empower women at every level of national development.
