Ministry Of Defence Launches Inquiry Into Drones Operating In Airport No-Fly Zones

The Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation to determine the source of recent drone activity in close proximity to both the Piarco International and A.N.R. Robinson International Airports.

In a media release, the Ministry noted that objective verification shows drones were flown within the five-kilometre no-fly zone of the airports, contrary to claims that the drones operated outside the five-kilometre zone.

The Ministry of Defence said reckless endangerment created by drone operators can pose obvious and inherent danger to both incoming and outgoing commercial aircraft, with the real possibility of collisions potentially leading to loss of life.

It further stated that the desire to obtain footage of military installations and equipment to disseminate to the media “exposes the citizenry to those who would benefit from the use of such information to our detriment.”

The Ministry is reminding those operators who continue to defy the law that the State will take the necessary actions to protect the public interest, including those available under the current State of Emergency.
