Ministry Of Rural Development Celebrates Local Entrepreneurs At Tinsel and Tidings

The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government’s Tinsel and Tidings came to a festive close on Sunday.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Peter Mitchell, said the three-day event at the Ministry of Agriculture in Chaguanas saw fifty entrepreneurs, artisans, and small businesses showcase locally made products and festive favourites.

“I want to compliment the vendors for coming out and participating with us. I understand fifty vendors were registered, and I think I was told by the team that some of them ran out of their stocks on Saturday, which is a good thing, which means, I think, location, location, location, and of course, with all the festive season.”

Mr. Mitchell added that the event underscores the Ministry’s commitment to economic diversification, and it is currently working to expand the programme to include more municipalities.

“We always talk about diversification, you hear about national diversification, you hear it from the Ministry of Trade Investment and Tourism. What we at the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government look at is local diversification. Each municipality has a different character, a different feel and a different vibe. The Ministry will not be imposing its view in terms of how municipalities evolve in terms of their economic development. We want to work with all municipalities. We have 14 municipalities, and therefore each municipality will have its own agenda in terms of how they seek to build spaces of this nature.”
