The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services distributed $94,500 in emergency relief grants to families affected by severe flooding in Sangre Grande on Wednesday.
The assistance was provided during an event held at Coryal Secondary School on Monday November 24th, 2025, representing a continuation of the Ministry’s outreach to families across Trinidad impacted by recent weather conditions.
Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services Vandana Mohit addressed attendees, emphasizing that the event went beyond formal grant distribution to demonstrate the Ministry’s commitment to ongoing support and compassionate response during hardship.
The Ministry provided immediate financial assistance to 14 households and 55 individuals through grants totaling $94,500. This included household grants totaling $85,500 and clothing grants totaling $9,000 for ten recipients. Grants ranged from $98,500 for households to $10,000 for clothing assistance.
Minister Mohit highlighted the Ministry’s comprehensive approach to ensuring families receive appropriate support, aiming to restore stability after devastating losses and help families regain peace of mind.
“Too many times in the past disaster relief was slow and uncertain. Families suffered twice. Once from the disaster itself and then from the long wait for support. Under this Government those days are gone. We respond with compassion, clarity and urgency because disaster does not give families the luxury of time,” the Minister said.
