Ministry Partners with Sewa TT To Provide Clothing For Over 6,000 Vulnerable Citizens

Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, toured the Sewa TT Annual Clothing Recycle Project 2025 on Thursday, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through collaborative partnerships with civil society organizations.

The initiative, located at the Divali Nagar site in Chaguanas, is expected to benefit more than 6,000 individuals across Trinidad and Tobago, including 1,100 beneficiaries supported directly through the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS).

The clothing recycle project represents an ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and Sewa TT, aimed at providing clothing and essential items to those most in need. According to the Ministry, the partnership ensures that assistance is distributed fairly and efficiently to identified NGOs, transitional facilities, and vulnerable clients.

During her walk-through of the facility, Minister Mohit was accompanied by Mr. Revan Teelucksingh, President of Sewa International TT, and Ms. Cindy Heeralal, Coordinator of the NGO Unit at the Ministry. Together, they observed the sorting and organization of clothing designated for distribution to beneficiaries, including 25 of the Ministry’s institutional stakeholders.

The distribution will reach a wide network of facilities serving vulnerable populations, including:

  • Shelters for the homeless and displaced
  • Senior citizens’ homes
  • Children’s homes
  • Facilities serving the socially displaced

Minister Mohit commended Sewa TT for its unwavering commitment to social responsibility and volunteerism, emphasizing that the initiative promotes sustainability while helping to restore dignity and comfort to those most in need.
