Through the United States Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) Humanitarian Assistance Programme, via the U.S. Embassy, Port of Spain, the people of Trinidad and Tobago were gifted two 20-foot, medical units referred to as “Clinics in a Can.”
The Ministry of Health accepted the donation of the two containerised clinics which will be housed at the Port of Spain General Hospital under the supervision of the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA).
The units, one Premium Primary Care Clinic and one Emergency/Trauma Unit, are expected to boost the healthcare capacity within the country. The Premium Primary Care Clinic contains exam room equipment while the Emergency/Trauma Unit is equipped to handle urgent and life-threatening cases.
The units have the option to be powered by solar energy.
