Montgomery Hard Court Refurbished

The community of Montgomery and environs now have an improved hard court. On Thursday, the recommissioning of the Montgomery Hard Court took place.

Community members, sport advocates and officials of the Tobago House of Assembly gathered to celebrate the recommissioning of the refurbished Montgomery Hard Court. Assistant Secretary of Community Development Wane Clarke informed that as Shaw Park Complex is under renovation it was important for the team to hasten works at the Montgomery Hard Court. He added additional work is underway at other sporting facilities.

“We have three more courts to recommission similar to this and we are going to embark on nine additional ones as soon as we are finished with this first four. I want to say that sometimes you are in a space and something happens and it brings another idea to you and something that might be very important. I just want to hint to the people of Bethel and everybody in attendance that we hope to erect a washroom.”

President of the Bethel Village Council Eurana Noel-Moore shared that the improvement of the hard court’s features is a symbol of resilience and renewal for the community.

“The revival of a space where dreams are nurtured, talents are honored and bonds are strengthened through the spirit of sport. The restoration of this hard court represents our collective commitment to investing in our community’s well-being and future.”

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine explained appropriate maintenance schedules need to be developed for the court and others being renovated. He also implored the community to come on board in making full use of the infrastructure.

“The development comes with the program of work that must be attached to this facility. So if all we do is build this facility yes it is nice it looks pretty it’s well lit then have we really developed the community. Where are the programs across the length and breadth of the island to ensure that our young people are engaged and that’s not just the Division of Community Development.”

Bethel/New Grange Area Representative Terrance Baynes thanked the team for their work as he expressed hopes that the space will continue to attract high traffic for the development of the community.
