More Than $2 Million Paid Out As Government Assists Flood-Hit Farmers

Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Ravi Ratiram said the government has distributed over $2 million in flood relief to farmers affected by flooding in May 2025.

Minister Ratiram was speaking during a Farmers’ Consultation held at the Office of the Member of Parliament for Tunapuna on Wednesday afternoon.

“Last year alone, we had to give out about, I think it was more than $2 million. I’m not sure of the exact figures, but I think it was in the closer vicinity of $4 million worth in flood relief grants for those farmers who were affected. And we are talking about not just giving out the grant to help the farmers, but the price of the commodity in the market after the supply falls, what happens? The price goes up.”
