Residents in the Tunapuna area may have noticed increased clean-up activity on Tuesday as Member of Parliament Roger Alexander worked alongside crews from the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation’s National Programme for the Upkeep of Public Spaces (NPUPS) to help beautify communities across the constituency.
According to Mr Alexander, the clean-up effort is part of a wider push to improve public spaces and enhance the quality of life for residents.
“The project is about keeping the place clean. We will be moving from area to area on different days, different parts of the week. Beautification is important, you know. It speaks to mind, soul and body. So what you’re seeing today is just that we are fixing the place.”
The Tunapuna MP also linked the clean-up effort to crime prevention, saying that clearing overgrown bushes and other areas where criminals can hide helps improve the community’s environmental design.
He added that while concerns have been raised about CEPEP operations, the Government will introduce a new programme once ongoing legal matters involving alleged corruption are resolved.
“Persons are saying, ‘Well, you know, the grass ain’t cutting and the CEPEP…,’ and listen, until matters are completed in a court of law and the corruption that was associated with that has been dealt with, then we will reintroduce a new programme. Until such time, we are allowing persons to do their job, clean the community, beautify the place again.”
Mr Alexander added that over the coming weeks he and members of the Regional Corporation’s NPUPS team will work to clean up the constituency.
